In July 2014 I was invited to compete in an event by a promoter I knew to be shady, but I needed the money for grad school.

Several days before the event, he tried to pull a fast one by making every competitor front the prize money. Which I refused to do.

After he insinuate I wasn't "game to fight", I politely told him I'd be going my own way. I told all the other competitors to compete for my event.

In three days I was able to raise $3000 in prize money, setup a live stream, get a referee from the UFC, and find a location. It was the best event I've ever participated in.

That's how I became a promoter.
